Alice Mary Torres

Alice Mary Torres, 81, and known to all as Nannie, passed away March 18, 2019 at her home in Kansas City, Missouri.  Nannie was born January 9, 1938 to Harold R. Bombard and Erma Bell Bombard in Burlington, Vermont.  Nannie loved her children and grandchildren.  She was known as Mom to many of her foster children.  Nannie was a member of her church, Life Church, for over 50 years.  She worked as a Sunday school teacher, soul winner, and ladies bake sales leader, raising hundreds of dollars for missions.  Nannie loved her church and her pastors.  She even continued to work in the church until she was no longer able.  Nannie taught her children the most important thing in life was to live for the Lord.  All other things were secondary and things would be all right if you let him lead your life.  In her dying days she was still committed to the church and insisted that her building pledge be taken care of before she passed getting online to pay that and her tithe the week before she passed away.  Nannie has many treasures waiting for her as she was a faithful servant to God.  The day before she passed she sat up and asked Lindie if she was dying, and then preceded to tell her she was going to be with Jesus and Papa.  Nannie was never afraid she just loved life and didn’t want to leave all her children.  There are so many stories to tell that it would take hours to share.  I’m sure she touched so many lives that only Heaven knows.  I was blessed to call her Mom.  A special thanks to her very best friend Judy.  Judy cared for Mom for the last three years of her life faithfully.  We love you Judy.

Nannie is preceded in death by her husband, Dan K. Torres, brother, Ed Bombard, and one granddaughter, Aimee.  Nannie is survived by her sister, Beverly Forgey; dear friend of 50 years, Judy; children Lindie Darnell(Dan), Gary Briles(Vicki), Erin Keck(Jeff), and Danny Torres(Angela), 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, & numerous nephews, nieces, & friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Life Church, 10400 View High Drive, Kansas City, Missouri  64134.  Funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM with burial at 2:00 PM at Maple Hill Cemetery, 2301 S. 34th St., Kansas City, KS  66106.  Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Alice Torres to Finishing Strong in care of Life Church, P.O.
