Francis A. Cordes, 85, formerly of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away on April 28, 2019 surrounded by family. Visitation will be held on April 30 from 5:30-7:30pm at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas. Funeral services will be on May 1 at Cure of Ars. Private burial service will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.

 Francis was born on December 15, 1933 in Wichita, Kansas to Anthony and Florence (Shelly) Cordes. He was the oldest child and had four sisters who still call him “Sonny.” After graduating from Conway Springs (Kansas) High School, Francis headed to Wichita State to major in Accounting. In 1955 he married his sweetheart, Norma Jean Turner, and graduated from college. The Army called him next, and he was stationed for two years at the Army Audit Agency in San Antonio. He joined the world of public accounting in San Antonio and earned his CPA. He was in San Antonio until he was transferred to Kansas City in 1966 with Ernst & Ernst. He stayed in public accounting the rest of his life, including owning Cordes & Company until retiring in 2013.

 A member of Cure of Ars Catholic Church for over 50 years, Francis and Norma were on the league bowling team for 30 years and helped with CCD. Francis loved working on cars and purchased many over the years. He loved telling stories and talking about his family’s history. Francis never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone.

 Francis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma; daughters Michelle Embree (Ed) of Leawood, Kansas and Jene Hong (Thai) of Overland Park, Kansas; son Tony Cordes (Julie) of Stilwell, Kansas; grandchildren: Katie Blasko (Jeff), Mark and Caroline Embree; Shannon Ellerson (Wayne), Heather Benjamin (Jack) and Tyler Popper; AJ and Jamie Cordes; great-grandsons: Tommy Blasko and Damian Popper; sisters: Jan Cheray (Herb), Lois Schippers Chambers and Rosemary Hartman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 He is proceed in death by his parents Anthony and Florence, and sister, Mary Elaine Conrad.
