Mr. Chong Kao Her, son of the late Chia Chue Her and Mee Vang was born on July 7, 1964 in Padong, Vientiane Laos. His late paternal grandparents were Nou Yee Her and Ai Kong. His maternal grandparents were Chou Kao Vang and Nou Her.
In 1969, his parents Chia Chue Her and Mee Vang relocated the family to Nakouang. Chong Kao has a total of 9 siblings (6 brothers and 3 sisters), from oldest to youngest : Chong Kao, Phoua, Shong Thai, Tong Ying, Chue, Sue, Yer (Mrs. Pheng Thao), James, and Xay (Mrs. Pao Choua Vang).
In 1975, the country of Laos fell to communists and Chong Kao’s parents relocated the family to a refugee camp in Nong Khai, Thailand. In 1979, the family resettled in San Diego, California of the United States where his family joined the San Diego Hmong Alliance church. In June 1982, Chong Kao married Diana Blia Vang.
In 1994, Chong Kao Her and his wife along with his children relocated to their final destination, Kansas City, Kansas and joined First Hmong Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In 1996, his father Chia Chue relocated the rest of the family following Chong Kao’s family and relatives to Kansas City, Kansas.
Chong Kao was predeceased by his mother Mee Vang (2009) and his father Chia Chue (2015) and younger brother Sue (2021).
Chong Kao and his wife have 6 children (4 sons and 2 daughters), from oldest to youngest: Nao Lee and wife See, Tou and wife Helen, Fong, Fue and wife Jachelle, Precilla, and Kasey (Mrs. David Cervantes) along with 7 grandchildren.
After graduating high school, he started his career working as a machine operator supporting many different manufacturers including DST. In late 2009, he went into surgery and shortly after started working again for Sika until end of 2010 but because of his health taking a toll on his body, he resigned putting his health as the primary focus. He spent many nights in the hospital and continued to fight his health issues.
Chong Kao and his wife were active members of the church and enjoyed serving the church community. They gladly lend their hands to help and support with whatever was needed.
Chong Kao is a man who is well spoken, full of energy, a great chef, and loved his family, friends, and community. Above all, he loved his wife very much. After spending thirty-six years together, Diana passed away in 2018 leaving him and his children. After his wife’s passing, Chong Kao became both father and mother figure to his children and all those around him.
On March 8, 2022, he was scheduled for a minor surgery to replace the port on his arm for dialysis. During surgery, the unexpected happen and he did not make it. This was unfortunate news to family and friends. He is survived by 4 brother, 3 sisters, 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, and 7 grandchildren. He also survived by his mother-in-law Mrs. Blia Xang Vang, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Chong Kao was a loyal and active church member, a great father, grandfather, and uncle to his family, relatives and Friends, and loved to support the Hmong community. He will be loved and missed dearly. Until then, we will all meet in Heaven.

DANIEL PERRY ESPENOZA
Daniel Perry Espenoza, 60, of Manhattan Kansas, passed away at the KU Medical Center on March 13, 2022. Dan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 14, 1962 to Ruth and Benney Espenoza. He attended Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah and went on to obtain a BA in Music from Utah State University in Logan, Utah as well as a Masters of Theological Studies from Mount Angel Seminary in St. Benedict, Oregon.
Dan worked in a variety of different jobs, but his final job was as a residential mental health manager for Pawnee Mental Health Services in Manhattan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading mystery novels, going to movies and watching TV. He also had great musical talent, playing guitar and writing his own music. Although he faced a variety of medical challenges, he was blessed to be the recipient of a kidney from his “brother” Ray.
Dan had a deep and abiding faith which he shared with his Wednesday prayer group. His love of his church community at Faith Evangelical Free Church was an inspiration to all. Dan is survived by his siblings: Cecelia (married to Michael Sheehan); Ben; David; Micheal (married to Angela); and Della Perez (married to Miguel); and by his nephews: Che, Jimmie, Benji and niece Ruth Perez. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.

MARVIN GENE CLINE
Marvin Gene Cline came into this world on April 27, 1935 in Pottawatomie Township, KS. Marvin was the son of Chester and Eunice Cline, who also had a daughter they named Frona Lovae.
Marvin grew up in Garnett, KS until joining the Army in 1955. While being stationed in northern Indiana, Marvin met Marilyn Meese, who became his bride in 1957. After being discharged from the Army, Marvin worked and retired from the US Steel Mill in Indiana.
Marvin spent his retirement days enjoying time with his grandchildren and fishing whenever possible.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother in-law, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Marvin is survived by his children, Margaret Sanders, Harley Cline, Marvin Cline, and Kim Thomas. 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Marvin was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

LARRY E. KLINE
Larry E. Kline(Teddy bear) age 60, left this world surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on March 18, 2022. He was born to Loretta and Burl Kline in Kansas City, Kansas. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Karen, for 42 years. He worked for BNSF as a carman for 28 years. He was a member of the Mooselodge 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Burl Kline.
He is survived by his mother, Loretta Kline(Jay Enright); his loving wife, Karen Kline; his daughter, Missy Kline; his son, Mark Kline; his son, Brandon Kline(Vanessa); as well as his beloved grandchildren; his grandson Tyler Kline; his granddaughter, Marissa Kline; his granddaughter, Tessa Kline; and his loving siblings; his sister, Lynette Chowning(Stacy); his brother, Keith Kline(Terri) as well as many nieces and nephews.
His family was his everything. He was as strong as an ox, as stubborn as a mule, and as soft as a teddy bear with a heart of gold. Hmmmmmm!!!

PATRICIA LYNN PARVIN
Patricia Lynn Parvin, 73 of Olathe, Kansas passed away March 19, 2022.
Patricia was born to Albert and Shirley Pearson in Kansas City, Missouri. She loved to visit The Precious Moment Chapel in Carthage, Missouri. Patricia was never short on smiles for her grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She always made sure they received birthday cards on time for their celebration. She was a pediatric nurse for 38 years.
Patricia had a strong faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

Richard D. Hasvold, 88, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022 in Shawnee, KS.
Richard was born in 1933 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Alvin & Mary (Malloy) Hasvold. Richard graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, during the Korean conflict. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1958.
On June 4, 1961, he married Ida Redwing. They lived in Vermillion, SD where he worked for the Department of Aging as a Case Manager. Later they moved to Topeka, KS and finally settling in Bonner Springs, KS. Richard loved working on vehicles and anything mechanical, often inventing new tools. He worked as an independent HVAC technician and later worked for the Shawnee Mission School District as an Operations Maintenance Manager. He retired in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alvin Hasvold, brother Robert Hasvold. His wife Ida, passed away in 2015.
He is survived by his children: Mary Hasvold of Flandreau, SD, Jennifer (Warren) Wingo of De Soto, KS, Sonny Hasvold of Houston, TX and Steven Hasvold (Greg Brewer) of Kansas City, KS. He has five grandsons, Dacotah Hasvold, Jared Sully, Wyatt Hasvold, Stephen Wingo and Weston Wingo. Also, he has agreat-grandson, Everett Hasvold and great-granddaughter Jaiden Sully.
Those who knew him will miss his sense of humor and kind, caring nature. But especially his sense of humor.

The local music scene lost legendary guitarist Steven Shiner on March 15th, 2022. Founding member of KC tribute band High Voltage and business owner of The Dent Team, Steven passed away at the age of 49. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Steven relocated to Colorado, and eventually came to reside in Olathe, Kansas. Steven drove and restored Hollywood classic cars and displayed them nationally, laughed with friends and family, enjoyed a good ole Philadelphia cheesesteak, and most importantly, focused on being the best father to his son, Collin. He will forever be remembered as someone you could always count on and have a great time with. He will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.
Steven is survived by his son Collin Shiner, many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and fans. Steven is preceded in his death by both his father and mother, Robert and Lorraine Shiner (Lanette), his grandmothers, Helen Lanette (Merkl) and Margaret Shiner (Leim), uncles Anthony and Francis Lanette, and cousin Cody Lehman.
Kansas services will be held on May 7th, 2022, at Wayne and Tonya Alderson’s, 31806 E Truman Road Buckner, MO 64016 at 2:00pm.

Anthony Talavera, Jr.

Anthony Talavera, Jr., 87, passed away on Thursday, March 17 th , 2022, at home with his family. He was born in 1934, to Anthony and Juanita Montes Talavera. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952. He married Angelina Delgado on October 27, 1956. He entered the Army soon after they married. He was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked for Union Pacific and Santa Fe Railroad. He retired from Mobil Oil in 1992 as a Computer Operator.
He started playing fastpitch softball at 16 years of age for the Stateline Locos. He continued to play, then coached alongside his sons and grandsons. His favorite tournament was in Newton, KS every Fourth of July & was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2019. He also was inducted into the MASA Hall of Fame in 1981 & received the Tury Garcia Award in 2017. His other hobby was bowling and bowled a 300 game on November 25 th , 2005.
Tony was preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers: Aurelio and David, and 3 infant children: Rosemary, Robert and Beatrice. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Angelina “Nini”, a sister, Linda Talavera, children: Liz Hernandez (Frank), Samuel Talavera, Tony Talavera, Patty Alvarado(Charlie), Manuel Talavera (Teresa), Mary Reyes (Robert), Vicky Sanchez (Ralph), Paul Talavera (Judy), Paula Wilson (Marc), Teresa Talavera (Ronnie Bolanos), Daniel Talavera (Sandra), 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was the true definition of a family man.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 23rd , 2022, from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass will be held on Thursday, March 24th , 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with graveside services to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1150 N. 38th St., KCKS 66102.
