Dr. Lawrence L. Lumpkin

Lawrence (Larry) L. Lumpkin, 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 3rd in Overland Park, KS.

Larry was born in Kansas City, MO in 1931 to Pearl and Donald Lumpkin. He was very close to his extended family and he and his brother enjoyed much of their youth spending time with their grandparents, aunts and uncles in Oak Grove, MO. After graduating from high school in Kansas City, Larry served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a dentist. He practiced dentistry in both private practice and clinics in the Kansas City and Springfield areas throughout his career. He was a member of the American Fluoridation Society and was an integral part of bringing fluoridated water to Kansas City. Larry was very interested in art as a hobby and was an active member of the Pastel Society. He also combined his love of physics and art by creating colorful, kinetic light sculptures that were used as teaching tools in UMKC’s Physics department and could be seen on display at the Linda Hall Library.

Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; two children, David Lumpkin and Anne Marie (Tony) Carreno; two grandchildren, Alexander and Natalie; Brother, Richard (Muriel) Lumpkin; Sister-in-Law, Nancy (John) McMillan and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64113 on Saturday, September 14th. Visitation will be begin at 10:00am with the Memorial Service starting at 11:00am.
