David Welker, age 70, passed away after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer at home on September 19, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1949 to E.R. and Lillian Welker, and graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, KS. David worked at Thompson-Hayward/ Harcross Chemicals for 20 years and retired from Fuchs Lubricants, where he also worked for 20 years. He married Susan Summers in 1968 and had two children. He married Joleen Alexander in 1993 and added two more children to his family. He is survived by his wife Joleen and four children, Melissa Guzan (Jeff), Justus Welker (Laura ), Abby Denk (Mason) and Jeremy Doggett. He has seven grandchildren, Jackson, Madison, Kennedy, Kelsey, Kara, Corbin and Quinn. David is also survived by his mother and three siblings, Rob Welker (Sharon), Kelli Adams, Tara Herring (Steve) and his beloved cousin Tony Perry (Nickie), as well as many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, step-father (George Adams), sister (Randa Barker) and grandson (Harrison Welker). David was an avid fisherman and loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball in his early years as well as coaching his kids’ teams. He also had a passion for barbequing and smoking meat. Everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying his famous brisket would agree that he made the very best. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 25 at James P. Davis Hall, located at Wyandotte County Lake, N. 91st Street and Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, KS. A celebration of life service will begin at 3:00 p.m. An open house will follow from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation or Kansas City Hospice.
