Lou Serio, slipped peacefully into the next phase of his journey, as he died, on April 26, 2022, at Nottingham Health and Rehab in Olathe, KS.

Lou was born to Jean and Louis Serio in 1962, and was the oldest of three siblings. He is survived by his mother, his sister Karen and her husband Leon, and his brother Steven and his daughters: Nicole and her fiancé Felix, and Allyson, and her husband John and their daughters Layla and Lorelei. Lou was pre-deceased by his father and sister-in-law Karen.

Lou was previously married to Tracy Serio (FKA Tracy Diesi and AKA Tracy Maheux) in 1987. The two divorced after nineteen years. There were two children born from the union: Evan Serio and Dylan Serio. Dylan pre-deceased his father.
Lou was married to his best friend and life partner, Kim Serio, in 2007. Lou was the loving stepfather of William Lee, and father-in-law of Jeong Lee. Lou loved his role in this thoroughly blended family as father to Christina Gallo and as grandfather of five-year-old Emilyn Gallo.

Rev. Serio was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (UCC) and held special standing as a minister authorized for chaplaincy at the Kansas Oklahoma region of the UCC. He was a Board-Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) and an ACPE Certified Clinical Pastoral Educator, (National Faculty) since 2016. Most recently, Rev. Serio served as Director of Pastoral Education at Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, MO. Prior to that, Lou was one of three System Office Directors of Spiritual Care at Trinity Health in Livonia, MI, responsible for The East Coast Spiritual Care departments for TH. As such, Lou was also a National Mission Leader with TH.
The family are active members of the Colonial Church UCC in Prairie Village, KS.

Lou earned a BA in history from UMASS in 1984 and a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from Western New England University in 1987 and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Andover Newton Theological school in 2006.

In 2020, Lou earned a Certificate in Management and Leadership of Spiritual Care at Rush University, Chicago, IL. In 2019, he earned a Certificate in Gemba Academy’s Lean Management Program (Green Belt).

For the past twenty-three years, Lou has been an Adjunct Professor at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA, leading courses in Ethics and Intro to Philosophy, Public Speaking, World Religions, Coping with Life and Death. Lou also taught at Smith College, Northampton, MA in the Post Graduate degree program in Palliative care.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM on May 18th at Colonial Church UCC located at 7309 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS, 66208 with a gathering /meal and Collation followed by rocket display and fireworks.
