Reverend Louis Anthony Serio

Lou Serio, slipped peacefully into the next phase of his journey, as he died, on April 26, 2022, at Nottingham Health and Rehab in Olathe, KS.
Lou was born to Jean and Louis Serio in 1962, and was the oldest of three siblings. He is survived by his mother, his sister Karen and her husband Leon, and his brother Steven and his daughters: Nicole and her fiancé Felix, and Allyson, and her husband John and their daughters Layla and Lorelei. Lou was pre-deceased by his father and sister-in-law Karen.
Lou was previously married to Tracy Serio (FKA Tracy Diesi and AKA Tracy Maheux) in 1987. The two divorced after nineteen years. There were two children born from the union: Evan Serio and Dylan Serio. Dylan pre-deceased his father.
Lou was married to his best friend and life partner, Kim Serio, in 2007. Lou was the loving stepfather of William Lee, and father-in-law of Jeong Lee. Lou loved his role in this thoroughly blended family as father to Christina Gallo and as grandfather of five-year-old Emilyn Gallo.
Rev. Serio was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (UCC) and held special standing as a minister authorized for chaplaincy at the Kansas Oklahoma region of the UCC. He was a Board-Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) and an ACPE Certified Clinical Pastoral Educator, (National Faculty) since 2016. Most recently, Rev. Serio served as Director of Pastoral Education at Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, MO. Prior to that, Lou was one of three System Office Directors of Spiritual Care at Trinity Health in Livonia, MI, responsible for The East Coast Spiritual Care departments for TH. As such, Lou was also a National Mission Leader with TH.
The family are active members of the Colonial Church UCC in Prairie Village, KS.
Lou earned a BA in history from UMASS in 1984 and a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from Western New England University in 1987 and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Andover Newton Theological school in 2006.
In 2020, Lou earned a Certificate in Management and Leadership of Spiritual Care at Rush University, Chicago, IL. In 2019, he earned a Certificate in Gemba Academy’s Lean Management Program (Green Belt).
For the past twenty-three years, Lou has been an Adjunct Professor at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA, leading courses in Ethics and Intro to Philosophy, Public Speaking, World Religions, Coping with Life and Death. Lou also taught at Smith College, Northampton, MA in the Post Graduate degree program in Palliative care.
A wake ceremony will be held on May 3rd at 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Faith Alive Fellowship, 4830 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, Kansas. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home at 4880 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS 66106. This service will be live streamed on Facebook for those who are unable to attend.
On a later date and time TBD, the funeral will be held at Colonial Church UCC located at 7309 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS, 66208 with a gathering /meal and Collation followed by rocket display and fireworks.

Jill Elaine Sexton

Jill Elaine Sexton, 57, of Lake Winnebago, MO, passed away on April 24, 2022. She joins her late husband, Brian Sexton, in eternal rest.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Janet Thomsen (Woodcock); her father, John Thomsen; and her husband and best friend, Brian Sexton; all from the Kansas City area.
Jill leaves behind two sons: Aaron Sexton and his wife, Emma Sexton, as well as, Vincent Sexton, all of Lake Winnebago, Missouri. Other family: Betsy Sexton, Lori Markham and her husband, David Markham, Gabby Markham, Jackson Markham and his fiance, Madison Couts, Tanner Markham, Olivia Markham, and many more friends.
Jill was a nurse and worked in many different specialties, from dialysis to allergy to research. Jill also loved caring for her dogs, especially Trevor, Winston, and Ruby. In her adult life, she brought more than 14 dogs into her home, volunteered, and donated to Wayside Waifs in KCMO. But more than anything, she loved spending time with her husband, Brian, on their boat on Lake Winnebago. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Cleo Therrien

Cleo Therrien, 91, born in 1930 in Hunlock Creek, PA., died April 22, 2022 in Edwardsville, KS.
She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance for over 20 years and retired. Worked as a volunteer at Texas Preforming Arts for several years following making several lifelong freinds which enriched her life.
She was preceded in death by mother, Adria Pearl Cragle , father, Paul Cragle; sisters: Elva Louise Belles, Harriet Belles, Lorraine Belles; and husband, Gerard R Therrien.
Surviving children Gary P Therrien, James J Therrien, Sara J Therrien, Keith E Therrien. With several precious grandchildren and great grandchildren which she loved and adored.
Services are being planned for a later date and will be announced when finalized.
Wayne Edwin Marson

Wayne Edwin Marson was born in 1961 and departed this world peacefully at home on April 20, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine A. Marson; his father, Jann G. Marson; and his brother, Jann G. Marson Jr., all from Idaho. He was also preceded in death by his biological father, Vern Gould.
Wayne leaves behind his wife, Theresa Marson, KCK. 3 children: daughter, Miariah C. Marson, and her 3 children Lake Station, Indiana. Jonathan W Marson, and his 2 children, Chicago Illinois. Duaghter, Kyrstin C. Marson, KCK. 3 Step children, Jennifer Martin, and her 3 children Memphis, Tn. Amber Martin, and her 2 children Memphis, Tn. David Martin, and his 3 children Holden, Mo. His sister Teri Duff and her husband Brian Duff Boise, Idaho. 7 nieces and nephews. And several great nieces and nephews.
Wayne had a special lifelong bond with his cousin Duane Johnson. He was a devoted husband and father. He worked hard to provide for his family and ALWAYS put their needs above his own. He was so much more than words can say!! Wayne would help anyone that needed help without hesitation. He never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

DENZEL "DENNY" MASON
Denzel "Denny" Mason, 67 Gladstone, MO resident Denny Mason, 67, went to be with the Lord April 22nd, 2022 after a long battle with multiple health issues.
At his request, no service will be held, but the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
Denny was born January 13th, 1955, in Wheatland, MO, to T.O. and Betty Mason.
Denny could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He worked as a manager for Hartis Kitchen Center for most of his life. Denny loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his Kyle Mason (Son), Michelle Mason (Daugther-In-Law), Kevin Mason (Son), Julie Mason (Daughter-In-Law); Grandchildren Jordan, Jenna, Brantley, Easton, and Jake; Sisters Rita Huey, Jan Eckert, and Kate Mays; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.

Roy Allan Bennett, 62, of Grandview, Missouri passed away April 12, 2022 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held at a private location on Sunday April 24th.
Roy was born on July 14, 1959 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Victor Eudon and Pauline Opal Bennett. Roy was a master carpenter and worked hard his entire life. He loved motorcycles, cars, and being outdoors. More than anything he loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ann, as well as four children. His daughter Debra Young and husband Blaine, daughter Amy Bennett and husband Cameron, son Jestin McBride and fiance Amber, daughter Sara Chambers and husband Jesse. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Nick, Nina, Natalie, Noel, and Leo. As well as three siblings; his sister Vicki Drake and husband Merrill, Jesse Bennett, Keith Bennett and wife Bonnie, and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by both of his parents and his older brother, Mark.
Marvin Earl Cavasos

Marvin Earl Cavasos, 69, of Turner, KS passed away on Tuesday evening, April 5 th , 2022, surrounded by family.
Marvin was born in 1952, to Harvey Cavasos and Evelyn (James) Cavasos in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a lifelong resident of Kansas City and graduated from Turner High School in 1971. Marvin began working as a night custodian with the Kansas City Kansas School District #500 in 1974.He worked at many of the grade schools in the area over the years but spent the most time at Central Middle School until the big promotion to day shift at Harmon High School, where he retired in 2010.
Marvin was devoted to his children every day of the week. And double on weekends. He enjoyed his grandchildren even more. All children and animals knew Marvin's soft spot, typically near his shirt pocket where he kept the orange tic-tacs. He enjoyed fishing, collecting guns, Rennaissance Festival, and the occasional lucky slot machine. More than 100 children over three generations have been graced with his close ties with Santa Claus.
He is preceded in death by his sister Deborah (Cavasos) Ingalls and father, Harvey Cavasos. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Cavasos of Kansas City, Kansas; brother, Frank Cavasos of Kansas City, Kansas, sister Carol (Cavasos) Pippin of Kansas City, Kansas, sister, Linda (Cavasos) Brazeal of Kansas City, Kansas. His children; son, Timothy Cavasos of Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Angel Root of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Shannon Cavasos of Shawnee, Kansas; son, Jeremy Cavasos of Kansas City, Kansas; son, Brian Gilliford of Canberra, Australia. His grandchildren; Devin Root, Christopher English Jr., Shane Pennington, Gavin Pennington, Lylah Brown, Brittney Cavasos, Victoria Cavasos, Kaylea Cavasos and
Kierstyn Cavasos. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Our memories of him will be cherished and he will be missed by all who know him.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 12th, 6 –7pm, memorial service from 7-8pm at Kansas City Funeral Directors, 4880 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS. The family will share memories and ask for others to share as well. Overflow parking at the former church next door.

Joyce (Case) Rickey, 85, of Olathe, Kansas went to her heavenly Father and eternal reward on Monday April 11, 2022.
Born in 1936 to Merton and Pearl Case in Sullivan, Indiana.
She had a loving husband William (Bill) Rickey of Olathe, Kansas.
Joyce had four siblings: Maxine Lathrop of Lafayette, Indiana, Fred Case of Lakeland, Florida, Flossie Klynn of Cottonwood, Arizona and Margie Gray of Edinburgh, Indiana.
Joyce was the mother of six children: Buddy (Jeannie) Heath Jr., of Indianapolis, Indiana, Stephen (Diana) Heath of LeRoy, New York, Sissy Jacobs of Overgaard, Arizona, Richard Heath of Flat Rock, Indiana, Sally (Lee) Frazee of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Suzi (Mike) Crowell of Mesa, Arizona and three step children: Linda Jacobs of Columbia, South Carolina, Shirley (Gary) Gillard of Edgerton, Kansas and Arlene (Loran) Truitt of Olathe, Kansas and 13 grandchildren and many great grand children.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Flossie, her brother Freddie, her son Buddy Heath Jr. and step daughter Linda Jacobs.
Joyce worked as an Audiologist for many years in Arizona and in her spare time, enjoyed knitting and putting puzzles together.
Joyce was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Life should be measured by the LOVE shared, memories made, joy given and blessings received.
Memorial services for Joyce will be held at Hope Presbyterian Church 13310 S. Blackbob, Olathe, KS on Sat. April 23 at 1:30pm.

Sharon Ann Zang

Sharon Ann Zang, age 78, passed away on March 7, 2022 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center following a fall on February 26,2022.
Sharon was born on May 14,1943 to Charles and Marguerite (Higgins) O’Malley in Kansas City, Missouri, where she lived most of her life. She was raised primarily by her father, but contended that she and her beloved siblings, Michael O’Malley and Patty (O’Malley) Ruth raised each other. She maintained a dedicated and loving bond with them throughout their lives. She also maintained a loving relationship with her half-sister, Mary (Hart) Vargo.
Sharon had two children with George Sparks, Craig and Brian Sparks. She was devoted to her children and loved them unconditionally. She fell in love and married Fred Zang in 1989. They enjoyed thirty-four wonderful years together. Sharon also loved her step-daughter, Amelia Zang-Carta, with whom she shared nightly conversations.
Sharon loved children. She loved her eight grandchildren, and even retired early from her career so that she could take care of them during the summers and before and after school. She enjoyed numerous Disney vacations with them. She became so close with the neighboring Castellano girls that she “adopted” them as “grandchildren”.
Sharon also loved animals. She had many dogs and cats as pets over the years. She could not pass a lost or struggling animal without stopping to rescue it. She facilitated numerous rescue animal adoptions.
Sharon was a dedicated and respected professional who was trusted and loved by her patients and colleagues. She attended St. Pius X high school in Kansas City North before enrolling in the Providence Hospital School of Nursing and graduating from St. Mary’s University in Leavenworth. She practiced nursing at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City General Hospital, Truman Medical Center and Truman Medical Center East. She practiced in the Emergency Department and Allergy Clinic, she practiced as a Preceptor, and she was a certified geriatric nurse. She was Director of Nursing at Truman Medical Center East and licensed as the Nursing Home Administrator.
In addition to her career, Sharon was a talented visual artist and painter. She was also a champion of social justice and an advocate for the disadvantaged and oppressed. She was very supportive and attached to her communities, especially the Village Cooperative of Verona Hills and the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church.
Memorial Services will be held for Sharon on April 24th at the Simpson House (next to All Souls UU Church) at 2:00 PM.
