BONNIE MAE BURKE

Forever a beauty queen and fairy god mother to many, Bonnie Mae Burke was born to Willie and Clette Long in Red Oak, OK on 8.16.1938. Bonnie was an eccentric woman and a lover of life. Bonnie loved JFK, Marilyn and Patsy Cline like no other. Bonnie married her King Billy Eugene Burke on October 27th, 1959. Bonnie had 3 daughters, of whom she stayed home with and raised.

Bonnie loved being a home maker and was able to watch her grandchildren. Watching her grands was a gift to them they would have forever. From lemonade stands to swimming lessons. Summer nights of catching lightning bugs and making mud pies. Acting like a ghost behind the sheets on the clothesline. Dancing in the kitchen was a morning ritual as cookies and milk with a good night song before bed. Bonnie was the epitome of adventure and made walnut street so special to all. Too say she will be missed is an understatement. Psalms 34:18 and Revelation 21:4 are comforting reminders we will see her again.

In Lieu of flowers please make donations in Bonnie’s name to any woman’s shelter or non-profit addiction centers. These were important to her.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sheryl McCoskey-Woods for her years of devotion to our grandmother along with the staff at medical lodge Nursing home.
Bonnie is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings, 2 grandsons, husband Billy Eugene Burke, Daughters: Sharon Smith, Isa Cunningham, and Diana Burke.

Survived by Grand children: Jessica Villar (TN), Melissa Villar (KS) David Goetze (OR) Bonnie Shively (KS) Joseph Bruner (KS) Matthew Cunningham (KS) Angelina Cleary (KS) and several great grandchildren.

Mary F. Bowman, 94 of Turner, KS, went to meet her savior on 11/18/2021 after a brief illness. She is survived by her niece, Tina Jones (Ron), nephews Jeff Fehd (Melissa) and Duane Fehd (Suzy), and her brother-in-law, Ray Fehd, as well as her great nieces and her great-great nephews who she adored, and extended family from Alabama.
Mary was one of six children born to Martha and James Bowman in the Mobile Alabama area. She was the last surviving child and joins her parents and siblings- Mack, Mason, George, Louise and Ruth- in the hereafter for what we are sure is a glorious reunion.
Mary came to Kansas City in 1940’s as a young woman hoping to pursue a career as a flight attendant. When she did not meet the height requirement, she took a job as a bookkeeper and began her career here in the metro. She enjoyed a close relationship with her siblings, but especially with Louise who joined her here in Kansas City. Mary was a dedicated employee of Gresham and Associates for 25+ years and then Forrest T Jones for another 20 years before she was sidelined by an injury on the ice that took her out of the workforce at 70+ years of age.
Having never married herself, Mary was an integral part of Louise’s family and served as a second mother of sorts to Louise’s children. She was especially close with Tina and they shared many hobbies and a lot of memories, right up until the end when Tina was her primary caretaker during those last days. Mary was affectionately known as “Aunt Mary” by many people who were not her natural nieces and nephews, which she thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed! Aunt Mary could always be found with a smile and a laugh that made her a pure joy to be around. She would happily tell you stories but was also content to listen. Her relationship with her Creator was evident every day of her life, and she loved when she taught Sunday school, but most especially her relationship was evident through the many losses of her siblings and her reliance on Him during those times.
Mary loved the Lord and she loved music and combined the two as often as possible. She loved taking her niece and nephews to Peaches for records during the holidays when they were young. She loved watching sports and talking sports with her nephews, especially her home state college team- Roll Tide Aunt Mary. She could often be found baking in the last decade of life for those who she loved: cookies, breads, pies… you name it. She loved sewing, gardening and was an avid learner as well, teaching herself the steel guitar in her 80s. She owed her longevity to genetics and holistic self-care.
What Aunt Mary really wanted from those of us who loved her is that we celebrate her life and her joyous union with Jesus. Please join us Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 6:30 pm for that celebration at Kansas City Funeral Directors, 4880 Shawnee Drive, Kansas City, KS 66106. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Trinity Broadcast Network as she was a supporter of the network during her life.

Virgil Dean Anderson went to be with Jesus on November 14 at Delmar Gardens in Lenexa, Kansas. Virgil was born in Adams County, Iowa, to Guy E. and Merle Enid (Farris) Anderson on April 12, 1937. His great-grandfather, Gideon Farris, was one of the founding members of Adams County in 1853. Virgil was graduated from Corning High School he served in Germany. After leaving the Army, he attended Junior College in Corning IA, where he enjoyed singing in both a quartet and choir. He and his wife, Sylvia Lynn Moyer, celebrated 61 years of marriage with their family on October 15.
Virgil worked for several years as head bookkeeper for the Mission State Bank in Kansas City. During this time, he was graduated from the American Institute of Banking. He then worked at McPike Drug Company as traffic manager for several years before becoming a plumber. His company, Admiral Plumbing and Heating, served many Kansas City area residents for over 30 years. After retiring, he worked at Hen House in Fairway, Kansas, where he enjoyed his encounters with the community. Nothing made him happier than sharing one of his favorite jokes to Make America Laugh Again.
Virgil’s ingenuity was evident in his creation of over 50 unique bikes which brought Evangelistic Center Church campers much joy for several years and were also highlighted by Wendall Anschutz’s TV feature on Place to Place in 1975. Virgil’s love of Christmas was evidenced by the beautiful carolers and light concepts he arranged annually in his front yard.
Virgil always found a way to fix anything brought to him needing repair. So his grandchildren never fretted about something being broken, as they would confidently announce, “Grandpa fix!” He spent his entire life helping others (including many widows) with their practical needs.
Virgil is survived by his wife: Sylvia Anderson, daughters: Stephanie Rutledge (Stan Rutledge) of Independence, MO and Kimberly Cortez (Dr. Derek Cortez) of Onalaska, WI; five grandchildren: Eric Peterson, Aimee Espy, Devin Cortez, Colin Cortez, and Lauren Douglas; and six great grandchildren: Michael and Everleigh Peterson, Miles, Marley and Reagan Espy, and Ada Cortez.
Preceding Virgil in death were his parents, brother: William Anderson; and sisters: Genevieve Robertson, Laurena Herzberg, and Leona Gourd.
Services will be held at Evangelistic Center Church, 5650 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS on Saturday November 20 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be Monday, November 22, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

The Westside lost a beautiful gentle soul. We know through our faith that she will be united with her parents, Miguel and Carmen Aguirre, all her brothers and sisters and other family and friends. But most of all, waiting with open arms, her only love and soulmate, husband Frank G. Rios. Although they never had children of their own, Mary Helen had lots of nieces and nephews and God-Children whom she cared for deeply and spoiled them as her own.
She was the last of her generation and the last of her kind. Her life was filled with happiness, faith and love. She was a confidant for many and a member of the Guadalupanas.
In her youth, she enjoyed sharing her talent of choreography and seamstress for the Mexican Fiestas of KCMO.
We were lucky to have shared this life with her. She was a jewel and now an angel.
